“Gentle Beginnings Yoga” sincerely believes that yoga is for everyone regardless of age, gender, size, shape, flexibility, mobility level or experience. Classes are intentionally kept small to provide the studio’s clients with the personal care and attention they deserve. Focus is placed on learning the poses correctly and safely. Students learn how to listen to their own body and progress into the various poses at their own pace.
However, yoga is more than the physical poses. It is about the acceptance of one’s own ability and learning to be content where we are in the present moment. This is not to say that we should not challenge ourselves! The challenge should grow from within, when the individual is ready and open for this new experience, ever mindful of our level of ability, respectful of our bodies and to practice with ahimsa (non-harming). It is essential to learn the poses and adapt them to fit our own body style, sometimes with the use of props, so that we can practice yoga with compassion for the human body.
